THIS POST PRINTED EXACTLY AS SUBMITTED BY A READER ...
I will like to start a new topic about the town of Collins. I have recently relocated to Ga, but used to spend every summer since I was an infant with may grandparents in Collins. I am bothered by the lack of progress in the town. When I was a child coming down for the summer, I remember the town had more stores and people took better care of their homes and land. I think I am so upset because Collins was always a place of good times and memories for me. It seems like most of the attention is being paid to reidsville and glennville in terms of development. I want to do something to make a positive change in the town, but I am not sure what. I hope this comment will be posted as a first step. I also hope I get some responses from people who care about the town as much as I do. In addition, I would like to know if Collins has a mayor, or who is in charge of making the decisions for the town. I have look online but can not find the information I am looking for. I have the phone number for city hall and will be calling as soon as I finish this post.

Well, I can't tell from your post if you live in Tattnall County now or not. If you do, I would encourage you to look into serving on the Tattnall County Development Authority. The County Commissioners are reorganizing the group and are looking for concerned, energetic people who want to make a positive difference in the county.
I believe Frank Murphy, County Chairman, recently renovated a historic building in downtown Collins. It may be for rent now but I'm not sure.
If you haven't found out your local government contact information yet, I have gotten this info from www.tattnall.com . . . Mayor is Kenneth Jarrell, e-mail is cityofcollins@alltel.net, and phone number is 912-693-2581.
I commend you for wanting to make a difference. In Reidsville, a small group of volunteers began a year ago trying to clean up downtown and get the businesses involved. TEAM Reidsville, as they are called, has raised over $5,000 locally now, applied for and received a grant, and is working toward one day getting Reidsville named a Better Hometown. It just takes a willing person to head these kinds of things up. In Reidsville, that person was Tara Martin (if you would like to contact her for some ideas maybe).
Good luck and let us know at The Tattnall Journal if we can help. I wouldn't mind doing some local features on Collins; I just need some willing people to be interviewed.
One more thing ... Collins' Autumn Fest is this weekend and should bring a big group of people to town -- if you don't live in Tattnall but would like to come this weekend. More information on that is on our webpage this week, www.tattnalljournal.com
"Progress" and "Development", however, are often overrated. While I am all for taking care of things and fixing things up, but we as a county are already in danger of losing everything that has always made us special. So many outside things coming in are tearing down the last remnants of the wonderful, down-to-earth, salt-of-the-earth unspoiled goodness that makes this county and its people the kind of place that I chose to settle into and appreciate - without changing it. Without spoiling it. Without taking it over and turning it into something unrecognizeable.
Cobbtown is already on the verge of being resort-ed out and possibly too expensive to live in. I've seen the hyperinflated prices asked for houses in the vicinity of the Victory Lane development. Give it time. If it's progress you want, progress you will get. But don't be surprised when the whole county so "progressive" that it becomes another cookie-cutter stripmalled town with no heart, no spirit, nothing to call "home."
I'm a little like you on the lead topic.. Moving here from a metro area to be in a nice quiet surrounding.. What got us here was the friendliness of the operators of the campground and now that they have sold it, we bought a house here.. The people here are just wonderful !! Let's keep it that way.. Progress will come..
